Our Fraternity • Our Chapter • Our Legacy
Founded 1914
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on January 9, 1914, by three young African American students — A. Langston Taylor, Leonard F. Morse, and Charles I. Brown.
The founders desired to organize a Greek-letter fraternity that would truly help people and make an impact on society. Their plan was to create an organization that espoused the ideals of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service.
Today, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity has more than 700 chapters across the United States and several foreign countries, with over 150,000 members initiated since its founding.

The Dayton Sigmas — a chapter defined by service, legacy, and brotherhood.
The Beta Xi Sigma Alumni Chapter is the oldest alumni chapter in the State of Ohio and the 3rd oldest in the Great Lakes Region of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.
Our chapter was chartered on May 20, 1949, and has since been a cornerstone of the greater Dayton community. Through decades of service, our brothers have made lasting contributions to education, business development, social justice, and youth mentorship in the Miami Valley region.
We are a chapter rooted in tradition but focused on the future — dedicated to carrying the torch of our founding brothers while inspiring the next generation of Sigmas through our support of two collegiate chapters at Wright State University and Wilberforce University.
Our Story
